Community Street Outreach On Hold
TBA

November 2017, The City of Santa Ana passed an emergency ordinance making it illegal to provide services to the homeless living in the Civic Center where we volunteer.

After diligently working with the City and the County through December, we happily became the first approved and permitted organization in January 2018!

However, in April 2018, Santa Ana let us know they would not be issuing any more permits for our events and evicted our homeless neighbors from the Civic Center.

We are currently working on our Double Secret Project continuing to fill gaps in the provision of services for our homeless neighbors.

If you have any questions, please contact us!

Frequently Asked Questions

-What can I bring to help out?

Please feel free to bring along donations of gently used clothing and blankets or new pairs of underwear and socks.  High demand toiletry items include: Sanitizing wipes, sunscreen, chapstick, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, deodorant, hand sanitizing lotion, and toothbrushes + toothpaste.

-Can I bring stuff for dogs and cats too?
Many of our homeless neighbors are comforted by keeping pets and we gladly accept donations of: dog and cat food, treats, flea medication, and pet shampoo!

-Where should I put my donations?
Please bring all donations inside with you when you arrive so that we may sort through them to make the distribution process easier.

-Where should I park?
Parking will be located inside of the structure immediately behind 4th Street Market off of N. Spurgeon Street.   There is also street and meter parking available but please read all applicable street signs.

-Where is all of this going to take place?
Assembly will be located inside of the 4th Street Market (210 E. 4th Street, Santa Ana CA 92701).  Once you enter, walk past Portola Coffee and CIVIC going straight towards the back right corner by Dos Chinos.  We will be directly across from Dos Chinos, inside of the FoodBeast Kitchen Studio!

-What do we do with all the burritos?
We hand them out to our homeless neighbors! During the distribution, which takes place immediately following the assembly, we will walk in a large group over to the Civic Center with reusable bags filled with burritos, waters, and goodie bags filled with toiletries and non-perishable snacks.  We do reuse the bags so please don't give them away.

-What if I've never made a burrito before?
Whether you've got years of experience and are a certified burrito roller or can't tell the difference between a corn or flour tortilla you can still be a huge help in the burrito assembly line!  At the beginning of the night we do a crash course in burrito assembly and you'll be all set to work on our burrito assembly line!

-What if I come late/there isn't a spot for me in the burrito assembly line?
Never fear, there is always plenty to do!  We will have goodie bag assembly stations, clothing sorting stations, and of course...someone has to help with the clean up before we head out for the distribution!  So come ready to get your hands dirty and if you end up with a few minutes of free time just sit back, relax, and hang tight until we start the distribution; because that's the part of the night this is all about!

-What if the RSVPs for the month I want to volunteer is already full?
Send us an email through the Contact page and see if we happen to have room and can make something happen.  Otherwise, follow us on social media and subscribe to our monthly digest to stay updated with all of our future volunteering opportunities so you can be the first to RSVP for the next time!

Future Volunteer Opportunities

TBD

Unfortunately, beginning in January 2018 the City of Santa Ana forced us to apply for monthly events permits that were granted on a conditional basis.  Santa Ana declared that depending on the condition of the area, we may or may not be issued future permits.

Sure enough, in April 2018 the City of Santa Ana evicted those remaining in the Civic Center and informed us that our permits would no longer be issued as our services were no longer needed.

Good thing burritos were just the beginning and we have so much more to offer our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness and are affected by mental illness.

Please subscribe to our newsletter and be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram
for the latest updates as to what we're cooking up next!
Thank you for your understanding and thank you so much for your continued support of our burritos of change!
